Scrapbooking for Charity:"Charity Cropping" is an innovative twist on traditional fundraising.

Sticker Planet announces a nationwide Charity Crop Challenge to fight ALS aka Lou Gehrig's Disease.

Much like the quilting bees of yesteryear, scrapbooking has become a wildly popular hobby that has swept the nation in recent years. Scrapbookers gather in social groups called "crops" and increasingly these crops are being used to raise money for charity. Crop organizers charge admission or sell raffle tickets to raise money for all types of charitable causes.

Sticker Planet, a retailer that sells stickers and papers through its print catalog and website, has turned the idea of charity cropping into a national event. The company is launching the second year of its Charity Crop Challenge, offering prizes to organizers of charity crops that benefit the fight against ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease). Last year, the company raised $20,000 to benefit ALS charities, and is working to raise even more this year.

Sticker Planet expects many supporters to plan crops between now and May 31st deadline for submitting donations. Company co-owner Richard Kraft says, "When we announced this event, we were overwhelmed at the response from people signing up on our website to organize charity crops in cities from Farmington, Missouri, to Mesa, Arizona and many cities in between. Many people have commented how pleased they are to be able to channel their love of scrapbooking toward a worthy cause."

Participants who organize charity crops can win a $2,500 Sticker Planet gift certificate and other prizes from the company depending on how much they raise. Sticker Planet co-owner Hilary Kraft explains, "We're a family-owned company and our father, Bernie Kraft, died from ALS in 2003. We thought this would be a fitting way to honor his memory and to raise money to fight this horrible disease. 100% of the proceeds raised in the Charity Crop Challenge will benefit Project A.L.S., a not-for-profit organization founded in 1998 and dedicated to finding a cure for ALS.
